Album Only
MYTHSTERY020 | 2023-11-03
Turkish singer/songwriter, astrologer and Dj Ahu is best known as the voice behind Flying Lotus "Roberta Flack" from the album "Los Angeles", and has collaborated variously with producers including Paul White, Emanative, Miles Bonny, Mr Beatnick, Jazzy Sport's Grooveman Spot and many more. Despite her star-studded list of credits, she has yet to turn in a full length offering of her own songs in 15 years of guest appearances. Thankfully, her debut album Stellar is finally here to set the record straight.
Weighing in at 10 tracks long, and taking in sounds and styles across her key influences - neo soul, jazz standards, vintage soundtracks, gospel, and the soulful divas of the 50s and 60s - Stellar proves that Ahu arguably is the missing link between Amy Winehouse, Francoise Hardy and Ajda Pekkan.
The album was produced and arranged by Baker Aaron, producer for mainstream pop-soul artists such as ENNY, Melike Sahin and Kadeem Tyrell. From the neo-soul styles of "I and I" and "Luna" to gospel on "Good News" and her beautiful cover of "Ain't Necessarily So", Stellar showcases Ahu's powerful range, both in vocal and musical terms.
