Mabiisi is the natural artistic encounter between acclaimed Burkinabe MC Art Melody and Stevo Atambire, one of the most influential kologo musicians of Ghana. Their song "King" got released through Akwaaba Music last year, now MoBlack Records have licensed this genuine truly incredible song and commissioned Sobek and Chris Deepak with remixes. Both stay true to the spirit of the original, with Sobek giving the song a verily hypnotizing afro-tek feel, while Chris Deepak reworked the song into a resistless afro-tribal infused affair. Mabiisi means "brothers from a same mother" in both the Frafra language of northern Ghana and the Mooré language of Burkina Faso's Mossi people. The concept stems from Art Melody's wish to reconnect with his musical roots, his desire to go back to the time when his voice encouraged farmers, as a young boy singing in the fields with his mother. The boy is now an experienced international artist, considered one of the most significant voices in African hip hop. Likewise Stevo Atambire has experienced tremendous success at home in the north of Ghana, as well as on the road as part of Wanlov the Kubolor's innovative Afro Gypsy Band.
Within moments of Mabiisi’s first encounter, it became palpable that the pair’s musical worlds intersected in many places: both artists are deeply rooted in their culture, and have performed and collaborated across continents. Both artists have an urge to push the boundaries of their musical worlds, and a need to spread their message to the broadest possible audience.
