We've always loved this Whitney song (and, of course, the Frankie Knuckles Remix) but what is really interesting is how the song developed. It was written for Whitney by Alicia Keys and her husband Swizz Beats (lots of people know that I'm sure!). But less well known is that they sampled/reworked a Loleatta Holloway track ("We're Getting Stronger") [written for Holloway by the Motown team of Norman Harris, Allan Felder & Ron Tyson) and took all the cool bass changes, great Fender Rhodes and a lot of inspiration from Loleatta's vocal.
That said, for our house sets there hasn't been a version of this song that we can play next to tracks from today so we asked our good friends at Start The Party (who reworked I Feel Love for us) to remake the original and got Kevin Mckay to rework it and here's his take. Obviously some people will be aghast that we have dared suggest something different to the Knuckles mix but this version has been working for us alongside the kind of house music we are playing just now (David Penn, Brokenears, Claptone, PDM, etc).
